Suggested solutions for the various industries
In general, the following applies to all branded products concerned:
2nd chapter: Foodstuffs
3rd chapter: Vehicles of all kinds
4th chapter: Other branded goods
Works of art, very small series goods and fresh products, and second-hand goods are not affected.
Generally applies to all branded products concerned
All branded-goods manufacturers, importers, and distributors (hereinafter referred to as „sellers“) who are active in Switzerland are connected to the EDVP central office, which is yet to be created.
EDVP is an acronym of the German phrase „Europäischer-Durchschnitts-Verkaufs-Preis“, which translates to „European average selling price“ (including value-added tax)
EDVP is a provisional invented name. EDVP is also a component of MEDIFACT.
Every importer will report the following to EDVP online for every item offered for sale in Switzerland:
1. The name of the product
2. The factory product code
3. The barcode
4. The composition of the ingredients – in the case of medicines, the active ingredients
5. The quantity of the contents
6. The sales prices (incl. value-added taxes or sales taxes) in all European countries. The
sales prices of the two largest retailers in the country (like Coop and Migros, for
comparison, or on websites) are always decisive.
7. In general: the seller names additional properties that are necessary for a comparison.
Divided by the number of prices entered, which results in the applicable maximum Swiss sales price, incl. value-added tax.
EDVP provides every brand owner with an import and/or sales permit for each of their products online – immediately and free of charge – and also states the applicable maximum Swiss retail price.

1st chapter Medicines – MEDIFACT
Any pharmacy and anyone with a valid prescription is allowed to buy government-approved drugs anywhere in the world.
The regulations on packaging, quantities contained, and package leaflets do not apply.
When a medicine is scanned, the text is displayed in the language selected by the customer and can be printed out if desired.
EDVP calculates the respective sales price per main active ingredient unit. EDVP adds these prices – and converts them to the daily rate in CHF – Swiss francs. The Swiss franc total is divided by the number of prices entered, which results in the valid maximum Swiss sales price including VAT.
Every medicine contains a barcode or similar that can be recognised even at home using a mobile phone.
The barcode contains the following data:
Manufacturer data and manufacturer country
Expiry date of the medicine
The name of the main active ingredient
The current maximum Swiss sales price of the blister or packaging unit
Every medicine has a main active ingredient – if necessary, a combination of active ingredients.
2nd chapter Foodstuffs
Essentially, the procedure is the same as for medicines. Except MEDIFACT has no influence here.
Fresh products are not included
3rd chapter Vehicles of all kinds
Vehicles can have different equipment and engine systems. Package prices etc. make designing even more difficult. The industry agrees on how to use the system and makes proposals for the EDVP Suggestions. They must respect the basic idea of this law.
4th chapter Other branded goods
The same applies to all other branded goods as it does for foodstuffs. Second-hand items are not included.
